Bizet’s Les Pecheurs de Perles (The Pearl Fishers) tells the story of how two men’s friendship is threatened by their love for the same woman, a priestess whose transgression brings about a tsunami which nearly destroys the ancient island of Ceylon. The Metropolitan Opera production features Diana Damrau as the priestess who comes between Matthew Polenzani and Mariusz Kwiecien. (2015, sung in French with English subtitles, 2 hours.)
