Opera: Alban Berg’s Lulu
Friday Mar 18, 2022 @ 1:00 PM Central Time
It was first an infamous play by Frank Wedekind, adapted into a controversial silent film by G.W. Pabst, then turned into a sensational opera by Alban Berg. Although there are many productions of the opera available on DVD, the Lulu I like best for its ability to tell the story of Lulu’s sexual history without resorting to near-pornographic representations on stage, is the one staged by Dmitri Tcherniakov in Munich, featuring Marlis Petersen as Lulu and Bo Skovhus as the only man she ever truly loved. (2015, sung in German with English subtitles, 182 minutes.) Please note the starting time at 1:00 PM.
