Opera: Carmen Jones
Friday Feb 18 @ 1:30 PM Central Time
Powered by the music of Georges Bizet and the magnificent lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein II, Carmen Jones is Otto Preminger‘s sensational all-black version of the classic opera. In this reincarnation, Dorothy Dandridge is a sultry parachute factory worker who lures Harry Belafonte, a handsome WWII soldier, away from his sweetheart, but she soon tires of him and takes up with a heavyweight prize-fighter, and all hell breaks loose. Also featured are Pearl Bailey and Diahann Carroll. (1954, cc, 105 minutes.)
