Music Appreciation:  Eric Satie and George Gershwin
Besides both of them dying in July, what do the composers Eric Satie (d. July 1, 1925) and George Gershwin (d. July 11, 1937) have in common?  One was a French eccentric who referred to himself as a phonometrician (meaning “someone who measures sounds”), and the other was an American whose music successfully crossed many genres.  See Satiesfictions: Promenades with Erik Satie (2015, 56 minutes) alongside A Tribute to George Gershwin at the Lugano Jazz Festival (1998, 72 minutes) and decide for yourself.
