Our holiday-themed reading is P. D. James’s The Mistletoe Murder and Other Stories:  four short stories, in three of which Christmas gatherings figure.  During her long writing career, from the early 1960s through the first decade of the 21st century, Phyllis Dorothy James (1920-2014) came to be called the “Queen of Crime,” the leading British mystery writer of her generation.  The detective she created, Adam Dalgleish of Scotland Yard, is featured in two of our stories and is the main character in fourteen novels, all but one of which were adapted as a long-running television series.
