Jose Quintero‘s masterful film adaptation of Eugene O’Neill’s A Moon for the Misbegotten, set in Connecticut in September 1923, shows the lives of three people in collision–Josie, a domineering Irish woman with a quick tongue and a ruined reputation (Colleen Dewhurst); Hogan, her conniving tenant farmer father (Ed Flanders); and James Tyrone, Jr., the father’s landlord and drinking companion (Jason Robards, Jr.), a cynical alcoholic haunted by the death of his mother. (1975, 2 hrs. 14 mins.)
