When a cosmonaut and psychologist is dispatched to investigate why ground control has been receiving mysterious transmissions from the Solaris space station, he experiences the same strange phenomena that afflict the three remaining Solaris crew, sending him on a voyage into the darkest recesses of his consciousness, challenging our conceptions about humanity itself. It was remade by George Clooney in 2002, but the original by Andrei Tarkovsky is infinitely better. (1972, in Russian with English subtitles, 2 hrs. 47 mins.)
