With the war in Afghanistan finally over, and thousands of Afghan refugees now starting their new lives in America, we are presenting a special “Afghan Film Festival” on all five Sundays in October. Anyone who sees at least three of the five films will receive a free “Make Afghan Refugees Welcome” t-shirt.  Our regular programming for the month will also focus on earlier waves of immigrants to America and other related topics.  Email plim@ku.edu for the Zoom links and additional information.

Afghan Festival #2: The Kite Runner
The second of five films in our series on everyday life in Afghanistan, The Kite Runner is based on the novel by Khaled Hosseini, which tells the story of Amir who, after spending years in California, returns to his homeland in Afghanistan upon learning that his childhood friend Hassan has been killed by the Taliban, and that Hassan’s son is in trouble and needs help. Winner of multiple international awards. (2007, in English & Arabic with subtitles,128 minutes.)
