With the war in Afghanistan finally over, and thousands of Afghan refugees now starting their new lives in America, we are presenting a special “Afghan Film Festival” on all five Sundays in October. Anyone who sees at least three of the five films will receive a free “Make Afghan Refugees Welcome” t-shirt. Afghan Festival #1: The Breadwinner
The first of five films in our series on everyday life in Afghanistan, The Breadwinner is an award-winning animated feature about an imaginative 11-year-old girl growing up in the bustling town of Kabul under the Taliban. When her father is unjustly incarcerated, the young storyteller cuts off her hair and dresses like a boy in order to support her family, but is a will of iron enough to survive in a man’s world?
