At an Army barracks in Hawaii preceding the attack on Pearl Harbor, a soldier and boxing champion (Montgomery Cliff) suddenly refuses to box. He is subjected to a series of punishments by his commanding officer, whose wife (Deborah Kerr) is having a steamy affair with a sergeant (Burt Lancaster).
