James Earl Jones (Lt. Lothar
Zogg) and Slim Pickens (Maj.
T.J. “King” Kong). Filmed in
England, the plot is loosely based
on Peter George’s thriller novel
Red Alert. The film won the 1964
New York Film Critics Circle award for Best
Director; the 1965 Writers Guild of America, USA,
award for Best American Comedy; and the top two
1965 British Academy of Film and Television Arts
