Tuesday, Nov. 8, 1:30 to 4;00
Lawrence Public Library, Room “C”
Three World War II veterans, one of them traumatized and one disabled, return home to the American Midwest to discover that they and their families have been irreparably changed by the war   The social readjustments of these men, each from a different station of society, is the main concentration of this story.
The movie, directed by William Wyler and staring Myrna Loy and Dana Andrews, won seven Oscars.  Harold Russell, the disabled veteran, became the only actor to win two Academy Awards for the same role.  The Board of Governors, thinking he would not win gave him an honorary award “for bringing hope and courage to his fellow veterans through his appearance.” He later actually won Best Supporting Actor!
