A 35-year-old literature professor and author in San Francisco, Frances Mayes, is struggling with her latest book. Her usual stable life is turned upside down after her husband files for divorce.  Her husband wants to marry the woman with whom he’s having an affair.  He is suing his wife for alimony and wants to keep the house.  She becomes depressed and unable to continue writing.  Her best friend Patti, fearing she may not recover, offers her a vacation in Tuscany where she and her lesbian partner Grace own property.  Frances accepts the offer.  She joins a bus tour of Tuscany and on the spur of the moment buys a tumbled down villa on the beautiful countryside. Deciding to begin life anew and while restoring her new home, she eventually finds fulfillment she was seeking, including love. Directed by Audrey Wells and written by Frances Mayes (book) and Audrey Wells (screenplay/story) this comedy/drama/romance won 5 nominations for awards.
