Winged Migration

This documentary follows the migratory patterns of several species of migratory birds over a three-year period. Beginning with spring in France and the migration to the Artic, the filming takes place over seven continents.  These birds fly several hundreds of miles toward the equator in autumn and return journeys in the spring, always on the same route.  Some species like the arctic tern even fly from pole to pole.  Except for the migratory penguins, the birds must continue flying the entire way over oceans with little refuge along the way.  Directed by Jacques Perrin and co-directors Jacques Cluzaud and Michel Debats, this film won five awards and 16 nominations, including Oscar nominee for Best Documentary, Features.
