Thanks to all who participated in the lively and stimulating discussion of The Prime of Miss Jean
Brodie. In the spirit of the holiday season, I propose that we read the all-time Christmas classic,
Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Throughout our adult lives I’m sure we’ve all watched
stage, film, and TV adaptations, but I myself haven’t actually read the story for many years and
I’m guessing that you probably haven’t either. I thought it might be interesting and perhaps
revealing to read the tale—which Dickens called his “Ghostly little book”—as he wrote it.
