Elizabeth Cox, an assistant professor in KU’s William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass
Communications, conducts research and teaches on a subject that many Jayhawks and Chiefs followers
can relate to: sports teams and the fans who love them (sometimes obsessively). Her particular focus is
the use of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) partnerships as a vehicle to strengthen relationships
between teams and their fan bases. “My work explores the intersection of public relations and sports
communication to evaluate fan-team relationships and the strategic communication that cultivates
them.”
