Music Appreciation:  Jacqueline Du Pre
Cellist Jacqueline de Pre‘s extraordinary career was cut short by multiple sclerosis in 1973, when she was only 28 years old.  When she died 14 years later, she remained as vibrant a figure in the public mind as she had been at the pinnacle of her career.  Here, we see her performing Elgar’s Cello Concerto, with husband Daniel Barenboim conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra; and Beethoven’s Piano Trio No. 5 (The Ghost), with Barenboim at the piano and violinist Pinchas Zukerman.  (2004, 100 minutes.)
