Based on the sensational Broadway play by Lillian HellmanThe Children’s Hour takes place in a private school for young girls, where a spiteful student accuses the two women who run the school of having a lesbian relationship.  Director William Wyler adapted the play twice on film, first in 1936, with the two women more acceptably fighting for the same man; and then more truthfully years later, with Shirley MacLaine and Audrey Hepburn in a “friendship” ruined by gossip and James Garner.
