David Hiebert Special: Gunda Hiebert tells us Dave’s favorite operas were CARMEN and BILLY BUDD, surely the yin and yang of operatic characters.  Because we just showed CARMEN (with Elina Garanca) in April, that leaves us with Benjamin Britten‘s adaptation of Melville’s BILLY BUDD, for which we have the terrific 2018 Madrid production featuring Jacques Imbrailo as Billy, and Toby Spence as Captain Vere, staged by Deborah Warner, with Ivor Bolton conducting.  Dave would have approved.  (2018, sung in English, with subtitles.)
