Elf
One Christmas Eve while Santa was stopped at an
orphanage, a baby crawled into
Santa’s sack and ended up at the
North Pole. The baby —Buddy — is
raised by the elves and as an adult
has Santa’s permission to go to New
York City to find his birth father,
Walter Hobbs. A publishing editor,
Hobbs is on Santa’s naughty list for
being a heartless jerk, had no idea
that Buddy had even been
born. Buddy experiences the
delights of New York City (and
human culture) as only an elf can. When Hobbs’
relationship with Buddy interferes with Hobbs’
editorial work, the birth father is forced to reevaluate
his priorities. A star is born in this laugh-out-loud
holiday comedy. Released in 2003 and directed by Jon
Favreau, this movie won two awards and had seven
nominations. Its budget was $33 million to make. It
grossed $32 million the opening weekend. (2003, 1
hour 37 minutes)
